Our Top Tips for Patio Design

Our Top Tips for Patio Design

In Texas, patio season starts in early Spring and stretches until late Autumn. Outdoor spaces are one of our favorites to design - it gives you a whole other living space to your home. As we head towards warmer weather, today we wanted to share some of our top tips for creating an outdoor living space that you love.

-Treat it like another room of the house.

Focus on creating a space that’s cohesive, comfortable, and layered, like you would with any other space. Think through how you will use the space - does a conversation set make more sense for informal gatherings, or do you want a long table for dinner a la fresca?

-Incorporate greenery

We love bringing plants and other greenery to a patio. In my home, we incorporated these great galvanized planters for the wall, that can double as a design piece and a practical place for household herbs.

-Add lighting

Whether it’s a standout chandelier like this one, or classic bistro string lights, adding lighting isn’t just practical for outdoor, dinners, but also adds beauty to the space.

-Use a mix of natural elements

We love mixing metal, rattan, concrete, and textiles, to create a space that feels finished, and has contrast.
