How to Hang The Perfect Gallery Wall

How to Hang The Perfect Gallery Wall

Tyson and I have hung gallery walls since we were first married. It’s always a project we do together and Tyson’s attention to detail and exactness with measuring and planning out a space always helps achieve a really well-executed gallery wall! We also love to thrift and vintage hunt for items, especially frames and art. One way to make an eclectic mix of frames that go seamlessly together is to paint the frames. . A great way to save money on frames for a gallery wall is to find frames at secondhand stores and then use paint to paint them so that they look cohesive. Today, we’re sharing our best tips on how to create a gallery wall in your home.

#1. Pick the right place in your house

A gallery wall is a great focal piece and should be displayed as such. Choosing a place to anchor it, like over a couch, or on a blank wall near stairs, will almost always give you the best bang for your buck.

#2. Stick to a color story

We’re big believers in sticking to color stories – it will help your whole house feel cohesive and like your design, all work together. Picking a color to paint all of your frames that’s in your color story for your home, will help your gallery wall tie your house together and not distract from your overall design.

#3. Plan it out on the floor

One of the easiest ways to make sure that your gallery wall is going to look great on a wall is to plan it out on the floor first, so you’ll have a good idea of what it’s going to look like.

#4. Keep spacing uniform

Measuring out how much spacing will be between every frame will help give the wall an intentional and planned outlook, instead of something more haphazard.

#5. Blue tape the wall

Tyson always maps out the wall first by measuring then he spaces it out with blue tape that acts as the frames on the wall so we can see the positioning and how we’re liking the spacing. This step is our favorite, it gets what is in our hand up on the wall before nailing into the wall! It may seem like an extra step but it really makes things go smooth when we add this step in for visualization.

#6. Use a level

Using a level when you’re hanging things is a great, practical way to make sure you aren’t having to stare at a crooked frame every day.
